The volume Social and Political Philosophy Today, dedicated to Emeritus Professor of Social and Political Philosophy Panagiotis Noutsos, Founder and Director of the Laboratory for Documentation and Study of the History of Social and Political Ideas (2001-2015), of the Department of Philosophy, Education, and Psychology (now Department of Philosophy) of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina, includes texts from collaborators, students, companions, and friends of his, that are intrinsically linked to the questions, answers, and prospects of Social and Political Philosophy today.
A broad field of Philosophy to which the academic teacher and committed individual Panagiotis Noutsos dedicated his research and teaching, leaving his indelible mark on both the activities of the University and the daily class struggle for the elimination of social injustice in the modern Greek social formation.
These texts come from a Symposium held in his honor in Ioannina on May 5 and 6, 2017. The constellations of the volume narrate, on the one hand, central questions that respond to the work of the honoree in the field of Social and Political Philosophy, and on the other hand, questions about the mediation of Social and Political Philosophy with other branches and approaches of Philosophy and Science, concerning current issues of our time.
In the dynamic field of Social and Political Philosophy, shaped by the aforementioned uneven conceptual constellations, its cognitive object and its particular perspective today are highlighted, with its clarificatory, normative, and descriptive duties being intrinsically connected, uniting the scattered parts of the socio-historical reality and its interpretation that pertain to the pathologies of our time.
This way, the unrealized realistic potentials for overcoming human alienation, for the emancipation of humanity, for the elimination of social injustice, and for the transition to a rational society, for the transition to real history, are highlighted.
