Our country is accustomed to earthquakes. But in this book, we are not talking about normal earthquakes as natural phenomena. We are talking about the earthquake caused by the financial crisis of 2007 and the aftershocks—political, economic, and social—that continue to this day—and likely for quite some time to come.
We are already in the third phase of the aftershocks. They began with the crisis in banks and the financial system more generally in the most globalized sector of the economy. They then reached the so-called real economy, causing a decline in GDP in many advanced economies, the magnitude of which we had not experienced since the Great Depression.
