Preparation:
Ensure the wood surface is clean. Remove varnish and wax if present. A clean, dry, dust-free surface ensures good performance.
Application:
- Apply using a brush or lint-free cloth. For ease of application, thin the first one or two coats with up to 50% white spirit.
- Allow the oil to penetrate for 20 to 30 minutes, then wipe off the excess oil using a clean, lint-free cloth.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours between coats.
- Apply additional coats of Pure Tung Oil as above, reducing the amount of white spirit used.
- Allow another 24 hours to dry. Apply the final one or two coats of Pure Tung Oil undiluted, as in the previous applications.
- After applying the final coat and removing the excess, leave for 24 hours and wipe again to aid drying.
- Remove any oil that may have pooled.
