This volume includes three of Plato's shorter works, namely: "Menexenus" (or Funeral Oration-Ethical). It is a draft of a funerary speech attributed to Aspasia of Miletus, delivered by Socrates to Menexenus. It is a rhetorical discourse rather than a philosophical dialogue. It is a transgression of Plato aimed at the orators whom he despises.
"Lysis" (or on friendship, Socratic). The proper definition and nature of friendship are sought. Definitions follow one after another, with simultaneous questioning and rejection of the immediately preceding one. Conclusion: what many believe to be the components of friendship are merely steps on a ladder that leads to the absolutely good friend.
"Erostai" (or on philosophy-Ethical). The main title is... misleading. Conversely, the subtitle grounds us in reality. Therefore, it is a discourse on philosophy. And a dialogue that attempts to answer the question "what is philosophy" certainly cannot have any relation to love and such matters. The assertion that philosophy is polymathy is rejected, as knowing everything is impossible due to the abundance of knowledge. Conversely, it is limited to the scope and extent that one can cover, and this is "know thyself," a knowledge that empowers a person in all their activities.
