It is, of course, self-evident today that the study and research of the society and thought of this era, where the Pre-Socratic philosophers lived and acted, must primarily begin with understanding their discourse, that is, by delving into the fragments of their philosophical speech and secondarily, but necessarily, from the study of the testimonies preserved for us by later writers of antiquity up until the time of the late Byzantine period.
