Onitama is an abstract game for two players with a random initial setup.
On a 5 by 5 board, both players start with five pawns on their side with their main pawn in the center. Each player has two open cards, each of which has a possible move for one of their pawns. There is also a fifth card that cannot be used by either player.
On their turn, the player chooses one of their two cards, moves one of their pawns according to the card, and replaces the card they used with the fifth card. Then the next player chooses one of their own cards, moves accordingly, and replaces their card with the fifth card, which is naturally the card just used by the first player.
If you move one of your pawns onto an opponent's pawn, you remove it from the game. If you take the opponent's main pawn or move your own main pawn to the spot where the opponent's main pawn started, you win the game.

Διαλέγεις τυχαία 5 από τις 16 κάρτες κινήσεων, δύο κρατάς εσύ μπροστά σου ανοιχτές, δύο ο αντίπαλος και μία μένει ανοιχτή στη μέση. Επιλέγεις μια από τις δύο κάρτες που έχεις μπροστά σου και ανάλογα κινείς ένα από τα 5 πιόνια σου. Την κάρτα αυτήν την βάζεις στη μέση και πέρνεις αυτήν που υπήρχε πριν εκεί. Το ίδιο κάνει και ο αντίπαλος στην σειρά του. Ουσιαστικά λοιπόν μοιράζεσαι με τον αντίπαλο τις ίδιες κάρτες κίνησης μέχρι να τελειώσει η παρτίδα. Κερδίζεις αν καταφέρεις να ''φας'' τον βασιλιά του αντιπάλου, ή να καταλάβεις με τον δικό σου βασιλιά την αρχική του θέση στο ταμπλο. Το ιδιαίτερο στοιχείο του παιχνιδιού έγκειται στο ότι πάντα οι κάρτες κίνησης είναι ανοιχτές, άρα πριν κάνεις την κίνηση σου, πρέπει να υπολογίζεις και την απάντηση του αντιπάλου σου.
