Description & Specifications

“It is a novel about the pleasure we feel when reading novels. The protagonist is the Reader, who begins reading a book ten times but, because of events beyond his control, never manages to finish it. I therefore had to write the opening of ten novels, supposedly written by ten authors, each of whom was in some way different from me and different from one another.” With these words, Italo Calvino introduced this novel in Buenos Aires—a work that took readers by surprise, sparked discussion, and ultimately became more beloved than any of his others. If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler was not only an unsurpassed tribute to the literary genre of the novel, but also a work that opened up new paths for 21st-century literature.
