Italy '43 is a two-player board game that depicts the advance of the U.S. 5th Army from Naples to the Gustav Line in 1943. The game, which continues from Salerno '43, covers the time period from October 2 to December 31, 1943.
It includes four scenarios:
- Across the Volturno
- The Barabara Line
- The Mignano Gap
- The full campaign
Italy '43 uses the same game system used in Salerno '43 with certain rule modifications and improvements, and features the same map and unit scale as Salerno '43 and Normandy '44.
As in other 19xx games, the rules include ZOC Bonds, Determined Defense, Extended Movement, and a simple CRT. New rules include: Construction of Defensive Lines, Mountain units, and two new attack options: Prepared Attacks and Sustained Attacks.
Players will find the game and battle setup especially useful for understanding the events during this campaign. It allows players to experience and understand how an exhausted German army managed to slow and then stop the 5th Army at the Gustav Line.
