Stalingrad ‘42 is a division-level game depicting the Axis summer offensive of 1942 toward Stalingrad and the Caucasus. Historically, this epic struggle lasted 6 months, and Axis forces managed to reach the Volga and the Caucasus mountains. However, Soviet resistance strengthened, and final victory eluded the German army in Stalingrad and the Caucasus. The ensuing Soviet offensive in November trapped the largest Wehrmacht army (the 6th) at Stalingrad and marked the beginning of the end for the Axis war effort in World War II.
Stalingrad ’42 uses the same scale and almost all the rules of Ukraine '43. Many modifications have been made to improve the system and highlight critical features of the campaign. Some new rules include leaders, elite armored divisions, planned operations, hidden Soviet preparation, and army/front support.
With four maps and low unit density, the game offers a broad view of the campaign, where decisions about movement and the direction of the offensive have long-term consequences that affect future strategic plans.
