The connection between the tragedy «Ion» by Euripides and the dialogue «Ion» by Plato may seem unusual at first glance. However, within the multifaceted spectrum of decoding through semantic etymology, what characterizes the philosophical thought of the ancient Greeks is revealed: a continuous, unified ontological stance of the «whole» and the «part».
The absolute «really existing being» of Parmenides, which contains and is contained within Heraclitus' assertion that «everything flows and nothing remains», is the philosophical proposition of poets and, by extension, of Platonic ontology. The Euripidean hero, «Ion», confronts universal substance and constitutes a fragment of it, while the «Ion» rhapsode of Plato engages directly with Homer’s divine λόγος, acting as an intermediary to understand cosmic potential.
Logos, harmony of the fragment, with the numerator representing cosmic reason and the denominator representing the etymological depiction of the mathematical idea, manifests in the embodied world and decodes the cosmological secret: motion and rest, flow and stasis. As an ion in both cases, it encompasses the potential for creating matter and the ontological fabric of a reason that remains ineffable.
