  • How It Works: A typical battery has three main parts: anode, cathode, and electrolyte. When connected to a device, a chemical reaction occurs that produces electrical current.
  • In the homemade battery, aluminum foil acts as the anode and the pencil graphite as the cathode. By mixing saltwater as the electrolyte, the LCD clock is powered by electrons.
