A traditional trawler built by Anciens Chantiers Dubigeon (ACD) in Nantes, the Volontaire (SM767) was launched in February 1950. It was equipped by the Union of Malo Trawlers and its home port was Saint-Malo in Brittany.

The MARIE JEANNE was its sister ship, whose home port was CONCARNEAU. Very modern for its time, it was equipped with a 1100-horsepower BW (Burmeister and Wain) diesel engine. Originally designed for fishing from both sides, it was later modified to remove the trawl gallows from the port side.

It was decommissioned in the early 1970s and dismantled in Bilbao in March 1973.
