33MP Exmor RS CMOS Full-Frame Sensor

The Sony a7 V is the first Sony camera with a partially stacked sensor. The 33MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor offers faster readout speeds and reduced rolling shutter compared to the a7 IV. Combined with the new processor, this sensor brings certain flagship-level benefits, such as more advanced subject recognition and tracking, faster continuous shooting, and improved image quality with a dynamic range of 16 stops. The sensor supports a native ISO of 100-51200, and the partially stacked sensor design also contributes to a faster electronic shutter up to 1/16,000 seconds.

BIONZ XR2 Processor

The new BIONZ XR2 processor enhances the speed and overall performance of the camera, incorporating an AI unit for improved autofocus, greater color accuracy, and more consistent auto white balance from frame to frame.
The increased processing efficiency also allows for continuous shooting at 30 fps without blackout, with full-time AF and AE, as well as 7K-oversampled 4K 60p video and high-speed 4K 120p video using the S35 area.

Pre-Capture & Speed Boost

Together with the basic sensor technologies, the a7 V brings additional features to help you make the most of the camera:

  • Pre-Capture: The camera can start recording images to the buffer when the shutter button is pressed halfway. Users can set a time interval from 0.03 to 1.0 seconds. When the shutter is fully pressed, the images are saved to the memory card.

  • Speed Boost: This function can be assigned to a Function button, allowing users to instantly switch the usual continuous shooting rate to a faster one, ensuring that the next photo is exactly as they want it. Photographers can choose various frame rates up to 30 fps.

5-Axis Image Stabilization

Upgraded compared to its predecessor, the in-body stabilization system supports up to 7.5 stops of shake compensation at the center of the frame and 6.5 stops at the edges. The 5-axis system combines a high-performance gyro sensor with an optimized algorithm for more precise shake control and improved communication between the camera body and the lens.

Upgraded AF and AI Object Recognition

The autofocus performance of the Sony a7 V is a significant upgrade compared to previous generations. Borrowing technology from Sony’s flagship models, the a7 V now features an AI Processing Unit and improved object detection and tracking. The phase-detection AF system still includes 759 points covering approximately 94% of the sensor area and supports focusing down to -4 EV. Object tracking and detection are also improved, with the camera recognizing animals and birds 30-50% faster compared to the a7 IV.

  • Body position estimation can also distinguish multiple people and maintain focus on the main subject, even if someone passes in front.

  • Real-time Tracking benefits from AI-based subject recognition for tracking moving objects, ideal for sports and action subjects.

  • The Auto Subject Recognition functions no longer require selecting the type of subject, allowing the camera to automatically detect and track the desired subject.

  • Focus sizes XS and XL have been added for greater flexibility, or you can adjust the AF areas according to the size or shape of the subject.

  • Full-time DMF (Direct Manual Focus) allows the use of the lens focus ring for manual control at any time, making it easier to switch focus to a different subject even when AF is being used.

7K Oversampled 4K Recording

The Sony a7 V utilizes its high-resolution sensor and fast processor for impressive video capabilities.

  • It supports UHD 4K 60p XAVC HS 10-bit recording using the entire Full-Frame sensor, offering 7K full pixel readout for exceptional clarity and realism.

  • In Super 35 crop mode, high-speed recording is available up to UHD 4K 120p or FHD 240p, ideal for slow-motion shots.

Flexibility in Recording

The Sony a7 V is designed for demanding productions and extended use

The device offers top performance and stability thanks to advanced thermal management with the special Sigma-shaped graphite heatsink integrated into the IBIS unit, ensuring uninterrupted long-duration shooting. The experience is enhanced by the Dynamic Active Stabilization system and Breathing Compensation function, which provide perfectly stable images without visual distortions, while the AI Processing Unit allows the Framing Stabilizer to automatically recognize and keep the subject centered in the frame. At the same time, the audio sector is upgraded with support for 24-bit recording on up to 4 channels, a new audio reference mic, and advanced wind noise reduction, guaranteeing professional results in any condition.

Advanced Color Control

  • S-Cinetone offers cinematic color rendering with natural mid-tones, soft colors, and excellent highlight control — fully compatible with the FX-series, α-series, and Cinema Line technology such as VENICE.

  • S-Log3 profile available for 15+ stops dynamic range, providing greater flexibility for color grading in shadows and mid-tones.

  • Ability to import LUTs via Creators' Cloud for accurate monitoring during recording.

Ports & Interfaces

Full connectivity for professional work with external devices and accessories.

  • Full-size HDMI Type-A port for stable connection with external recorders.

  • Two USB-C ports for maximum flexibility:

    • USB-C 3.2 Gen2 up to 10 Gbps for ultra-fast data transfer.

    • USB-C 2.0 for Power Delivery & battery charging even during use.

  • 3.5mm headphone & microphone ports for full audio control.

  • Multi Interface Shoe compatible with ECM-B1M Shotgun Mic or XLR-K3M Adapter that transmit a digital (not analog) signal for top audio quality.
