The English Electric Lightning is a British twin-engine supersonic fighter aircraft. Its F.1 version first flew in 1960, and the F.2 four years later. The Lightning is characterized by an unusual engine arrangement – one above the other vertically. Its very unusual wing profile and lack of ailerons are also unique.
