The PzKpfw II (Panzerkampfwagen II) is a German light tank that was used during World War II. The first prototypes were created in 1934 and serial production lasted from 1935 to 1944, with approximately 1,850 vehicles manufactured.
Version A of the vehicle is powered by a Maybach HL 57 TR engine with 130 HP. It is armed with:
- 1 KwK 30 cannon of 20 mm
- 1 MG 34 machine gun of 7.92 mm in the turret
The PzKpfw II was developed as a result of a competition announced by the German Ordnance Office to create a light tank, weighing up to 10 tons, with a 20 mm cannon. The competition was won by MAN in cooperation with Daimler-Benz. Series production started in 1935 and during this period many variants of the PzKpfw II were created, with version A being the first, although produced in relatively small numbers. Immediately after, version B was created with a more powerful engine.
