The F-14 Tomcat was designed as the main fighter of the US Navy, capable of performing air superiority, escort, and strike missions. It is one of the most advanced aircraft to have served on an aircraft carrier. The first aircraft flew on December 21, 1970, with the first deliveries to the US Navy occurring four years later. The last F-14s were retired in 2006.
