Malifaux is a world filled with danger, wonder, and ambition. Connected to Earth through a dimension known as Great Breach, it is a place where magic flourishes, full of lost technologies and buried secrets waiting to be discovered. For those brave enough to cross this system, the location offers opportunities beyond imagination, though at a heavy cost, and few leave unchanged.
Humankind discovered Malifaux when the Great Breach opened in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They entered a desolate landscape, but within it lay treasures. Constructions, relics, and tomes of magic suddenly changed humanity and Earth forever. Sorcerers developed necromancy, driven mad by voices urging them to push the boundaries of death’s magic. Earth’s waning magic was amplified by Soulstones: beautiful precious stones mined from deep underground, each capable of storing incredible amounts of energy. Industry boomed, but everything eventually collapsed.
Malifaux is a miniatures strategy game set in a horror/steampunk environment where each player creates a force of 5-7 figures from a faction to fight. A force consists of subordinates and at least one master. The game involves resource management elements, as cards are used instead of dice to resolve skill checks. Each check involves selecting a card from a deck and adding it to a model’s stat line. Players can then use cards from their hands to increase the value. The highest value in an opposing check wins. The turn system is integrated, with each player alternating turns between model activations.
Malifaux: The Resurrectionists Nurse
The name is a dark joke that only twisted minds of killers and grave robbers find amusing. The Resurrectionists bring the dead back to life, but the result is not a restored corpse but a mindless puppet. Their practices are particularly grotesque for the citizens of Malifaux, who already face the occupational dangers of the mines and nightmares born from the Neverborn. The realization that some of the most terrifying creatures in this world are former friends and family is a dark reality.
