Description

The name "Idaia" comes from Crete and is attributed in honor of the wife of King Zeus and mother of the Curetes. According to Greek mythology, Crete is the island where the god Zeus was born. The eight-petaled daisy in the winery's logo symbolizes the star Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.

Idaia winery is a family winery founded in 2000 by oenologists Vasilis Laderos and Kalliopi Volitaki, aiming to highlight the indigenous varieties of the island. It is located in the heart of the Cretan vineyard in the Malevizi province, in the village of Venerato, south of Heraklion, and within the PDO Dafnes viticultural zone.

The winery's vineyards cover 30 acres at an altitude of 400 – 500 meters. They are cultivated with organic products and are not fertilized. After vinification, most of the pomace returns to the vineyard. The average age of the vineyards is 35 years.
