Bitter Fennel
Bitter fennel has a refreshing action. It enhances digestive function, reduces gas in the digestive system, and alleviates bloating. It is an excellent remedy for the stomach and intestines, relieving bloating and colics, while stimulating digestion and opening the appetite.
Its calming action is similar to that of anise, and it is used to treat bronchitis and cough, and may improve the flavor in various cough remedies. Bitter fennel increases milk flow in breastfeeding mothers and helps relieve infant colic.
Externally, fennel essential oil relieves muscular and rheumatic pains. The infusion can be used for treating conjunctivitis and eyelid inflammation with compresses. It is also good for bad breath, whether through gargling or chewing.
It combines well with chamomile, geranium, and thyme for digestive disorders, as well as with buckthorn and nettle for weight loss in obesity.
Usage: Pour a cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb (with a slight crush on the seeds) and let it steep for 10 minutes. The infusion can be taken up to three times a day. If using tincture, take 2-4 ml up to three times a day.
