Romanesque architecture began around 950/960 and appeared throughout Europe. In France, it was replaced by Gothic architecture from the 1140s onwards, but north of the Alps, as well as in Spain and Italy, this transition only occurred during the 13th century. Typical features of Romanesque churches are the arched windows, massive walls, and relatively simple floor plans.

For ages 14 and up.
