The work "The Pink Seashores", which was first published in the magazine "Nea Zoi" of Alexandria, volume IV, "November 1907 - June 1908", was delivered with the subtitle "Social Novel".
When Kavafis read it, he particularly admired its exquisite descriptions. It is an innovative and daring work in terms of art and technique, among the most select of the great Skiathean's works.
Papadiamantis "gets carried away" in long descriptions, but "The Pink Seashores" are enriched with dense dialogues, which we must pay attention to, as well as the delineation of the characters and their psychological observation, which continues even after the end of the work, in the careful reader. Because Papadiamantis basically aims at Man and not at "beautiful" nature. It's another matter if the Papadiamantian language presents itself as a distant courtyard. This is an "additional" element, not so external, a pure "human" element that captivates the reader.
This edition also includes four more short stories by Papadiamantis.
