Description

The Garmin fēnix 8 is the watch that makes no compromises. It is the jewel you will wear at the office and the rugged tool you will trust on the wildest slope. It is Garmin's top technology, in the most elegant and dynamic version ever made. You are not just buying a watch, you are buying complete control of your adventure.

Why is the fēnix 8 in a category of its own?

  • AMOLED "Burning" Display: The resolution is so high that maps and graphics look like a latest-generation smartphone. But don’t be mistaken: it’s Garmin. This means the screen is protected by Sapphire Crystal and the bezel is made of stainless steel.
  • Talk to It, It Listens: The fēnix has a built-in microphone and speaker. You can answer calls, send messages with your voice, or give voice commands even offline – ideal when climbing and your hands are busy.
  • Waterproof Contacts & Diving: The fēnix 8 is now officially a diving watch. It features leak-proof buttons and a special diving application for depths up to 40 meters.

Built-in Speaker & Microphone

1. You set the distance: You simply say: "I want to run 5km" (or 10, or 20).

2. The watch plans: Using Trendline™ maps (which know which trails and roads other athletes prefer), it suggests 3 different circular routes that bring you exactly back to where you started.

3. The "Dynamic" twist: If during the route you see a nice alley and decide to turn, or if you encounter an obstacle and change course, the fēnix 8 doesn’t complain. Instead of telling you "You are off course," it automatically calculates a new path to complete the kilometers you requested and get you back on time.

The "Laboratory" Analysis of Your Body

  • Training Readiness: It tells you if today is the day to "give it your all" or if you should stay on the couch.
  • ECG App: Certified electrocardiogram to check your heart health at any time.
  • Targeted Strength Training: Specialized 4-6 week strength training programs that guide you step-by-step to achieve your goal.

Battery that never "dies"

Despite the AMOLED display, Garmin worked its magic:

  • Smartwatch mode: Up to 10 days.

  • GPS mode: Up to 28 hours of continuous tracking (enough for the most demanding trail runs).

This review is about case size: 47 mm, colour: Black

The watch is top-notch. I bought the Fenix 8 Titanium & Sapphire with the AMOLED screen, as an upgrade from the very reliable Instinct Solar 2X.

    POSITIVES:
    - Battery lasts 10 days with almost daily activity (half to one hour of exercise, mixed GPS use during exercise). On holidays when I don't do many activities, it can last 15-17 days.
    - The accuracy of the measurements is excellent. Multiband GPS that is accurate to the meter, heart rate, steps, etc. Everything is very precise. I have cross-checked the measurements with other Garmin Monitors and the watch doesn't miss at all.
    - BUILT-IN maps. Its biggest advantage for me. Global maps, loaded OFFLINE on the watch, so you can take your walk or run on trails without even using your phone. The maps are fully updated, they even have sidewalks and small mountain paths.
    - The built-in powerful flashlight is a game changer.
    - In general, the metrics it has for exercise and physical health are very useful and understandable, but also detailed. I use it for running and all the metrics related to sleep, rest, workout load, recovery time, etc. are accurate. If you follow them, you will get good results.
    - Finally, microphone and speaker, so you can answer and talk on calls from the watch (only as long as it is within range of the phone, the watch does not have GSM on its own).

    NEGATIVES:
It's hard to find negatives, but there are some points that could be improved:
    - The mobile application could be a bit more user-friendly and easy. You need to search a bit to find what you want. It has everything and it's there, but hidden.
    - The construction of the Fenix 8 allows for diving, and the use of its buttons up to 50m depth. That's why they have changed the technology of the physical side buttons to be completely waterproof. This makes them a bit hard to press. If you come from any other watch with physical buttons, you will notice it immediately. You get used to it after a while, but even now after 1.5 years, 1 out of 10 times I press the button and it doesn't register. Ok, you can live with that...
    - If you are looking for a smart watch (with emphasis on smart...), then its smart features will not satisfy you. Don't expect to send messages, see Instagram, etc. from the watch. Nothing like Apple Watch. The Fenix is an ACTIVITY watch.

If you plan to spend the 1000+€ for something you will enjoy and that won't let you down, the Fenix is a dream! Buy it if you want it for activities, to track your running/cycling/swimming, if you want to hike with fully offline maps in your hand, without worrying if your phone has battery, if you want to train for a marathon or something similar.
Don't buy it if you want to see your Insta on the watch, reply to messages, view photos and things like that...

From personal experience, transitioning from the Garmin 910XT to the Fenix 8 felt like a decade leap in technology. As a triathlete, I particularly appreciated the ease with which it switches sports during training or competition, the accuracy in measurements, and the usability of the touchscreen in combination with the physical buttons. The 910XT served me faithfully, but the Fenix 8 now offers me a complete picture of recovery, load, VO2max, and navigation on unknown trails – something that was entirely missing before. I feel like I have a true "training tool" in my hands, not just a watch.

Flawless, by far better than the Apple watch and similar categories! Battery life, you simply forget about it... It remains to be expensive but if you reach a similar budget I think it's the best choice so far.

Description & Specifications

The Garmin fēnix 8 is the watch that makes no compromises. It is the jewel you will wear at the office and the rugged tool you will trust on the wildest slope. It is Garmin's top technology, in the most elegant and dynamic version ever made. You are not just buying a watch, you are buying complete control of your adventure.

Why is the fēnix 8 in a category of its own?
