The Vassaltis Winery was born in 2014. The name of the Winery originates from Vassaltis, the primary rock found in the soil of Santorini, contributing to the formation of its unique terroir.
Makrotragano is a thick-skinned and robust grape that creates full-bodied and tannic wines, completely contrary to the light, easy-drinking red wine one would expect. Gaining life on a volcanic island is challenging, which leads to resilient vines and strong wines. There is no typicality among the wines produced from this variety, as it is at the mercy of the winemaker.
Vassaltis is dedicated to the winemaking of Santorini's indigenous grapes, presenting these flavors to the world. Santorini must have red wine, as bold and exciting as Assyrtiko. Makrotragano is a variety worth exploring.
