In Darwin's Footsteps is a simple and enjoyable family game based on tile set collection. During the game, you take on the role of young naturalists who have just boarded the ship Beagle. You embark on a mission during which you will study various animal species, explore the terrain and create maps, publish your discoveries, and formulate theories. Everyone tries to earn more victory points than their opponents, meaning to contribute the most to Darwin's work!

During the game, participants take turns alternately, each consisting of 2 steps:

1. Studying an animal or being inspired by the work of a figure, during which the naturalist chooses 1 of 3 tiles from the column or row with the Beagle figure next to it and places it in their notebook.
2. Traveling on the Beagle, i.e., moving the figure by the appropriate number of spaces according to the tile chosen in the previous move.

Each of the tiles available on the board provides a bonus: sometimes it is a fixed number of points, other times it is elements that will earn points depending on how many of them we have. The interacting elements are the heart of the whole game, and skillful use of them will bring us closer to victory. We also receive bonuses for completing rows and columns, as well as theory tokens, which we can acquire during the game.

The game ends when each player places exactly 12 tiles in their notebook. The winner is the person who accumulates the most points after considering all the bonuses.

• Our game constantly forces us to decide which move will be the most profitable. Completing rows and columns gives us extra points, on the other hand, each time we cover a tile with another, we receive a theory token and with it bonus points at the end of the game. It is up to us which strategy we choose this time.
• The multitude of available combinations of animal and character tiles, as well as the additional goals that guide our actions, mean that we have many options to try and the individual games differ significantly from each other.
• The instructions contain interesting facts about the life of Darwin himself and various animal species, and the tiles allow you to learn about their places of appearance.
