The wine series from the Moschopolis Winery, Aiora with wines maturing in amphorae, is a new endeavor by George Germani. Its name derives from Aiora, the ancient Greek festival dedicated to the God Dionysus and the celebration of the revelation of the annual wine.
It was part of the three-day Anthesteria festival, where ritually, on the first day, villagers would open the jars containing the year's wine and conduct the first tastings. On the second day, they would fill the amphorae and participate in the Aiora festival, where, amidst wine-drinking and lavish dinners, young girls would sing on swings attached to tree branches. The third day was dedicated to the dead, indicating a deep understanding of the earthly nature of humans.
In this way, ancient tradition is honored by following winemaking and utilizing wild yeasts, while the wine remains in amphorae for 12 months. Definitely a Mavrotragano very different from the others, with a more refined, soft, and earthy character.
