The wine series of Moschopolis Winery, Aiora with wines maturing in amphorae, is a new effort by the innovative and pioneering Giorgos Germanis. Its name comes from Aiora, the ancient Greek festival dedicated to the God Dionysus and the celebration of the revelation of the annual wine.
It was part of the three-day Anthesteria festival, where in a ceremonial way:
- On the first day, villagers opened the jars containing the year's wine, and the first tastings took place.
- On the second day, they filled the amphorae, and the Aiora festival took place, where young girls sang on swings, which were fastened to tree branches.
- The third day was dedicated to the dead, which testifies to the profound understanding of the earthly nature of people.
In this way, the ancient tradition is honored by following winemaking and using wild yeasts, while the wine remains in amphorae for 12 months. If you are a lover of Xinomavro, you will adore the naturally vinified Xinomavro of Moschopolis Winery.
