My first Grease gun so I can't compare it to anything. But it does what it needs to. Mine didn't come with a manual so I had to figure out how to fill it. There is a way to lock the 'spring mechanism' all the way back so that you can fill it from the side of the hose. Afterwards you can unlock it to re-engage the spring and use the lever to pump out grease.
