    The only thing you need to keep in mind is that it matters which side you connect the cable to the adapter (type-c to type-a). If you connect it the wrong way, you'll get USB 2 speed, meaning for USB 3 you need to find the correct side. They should have mentioned this because I couldn't figure out what was wrong and had a hard time discovering the issue.
