Sent to reinforce their besieged Italian allies in North Africa, the Deutsches Afrika Korps proved to be a dangerous adversary. Under the command of Erwin Rommel, the Afrika Korps engaged in fierce battles in Egypt and Libya, showcasing German tactics in the desert. The German soldiers were highly regarded by the other forces they faced.
The Afrika Korps infantry was supported by the 88 gun (8.8 cm Flak) and the Panzer IV, developed into what the British called the "Pz IV special." Battles at El Alamein and Tobruk significantly enhanced their combat capability. The Afrika Korps set contains:
