Excellent shoe!
I have climbed Taygetus (in 6 hours of rain), I have walked Vardousia 30km+, I have been to Tzoumerka and I have worn them in snow with gaiters, in the rainy, muddy, and snowy Smolikas and they have not disappointed me anywhere.

Stable, they don't slip and are comfortable for the foot.
The only drawback is that they are quite open on top so small stones, leaves, and snow can get in relatively easily, so in demanding terrain, gaiters are needed to avoid stopping constantly to take out the shoes.

very high quality, lightweight and truly waterproof, easy size selection in centimeters, from 45 1/2 I took 46 2/3.

Initially, I bought them for hiking, where they were a good choice, good ankle support, they didn't slip, they didn't hurt me. I decided to use them for everyday work as well. After a few months, they lost their waterproofing and opened up in 2 small spots where water gets in.

I don't have an opinion yet on rugged trails.
Let's see the basics. In everyday use, they are classic and beautiful, very lightweight with a solid, almost seamless tread that unfortunately has lower grip on wet surfaces compared to boots that cost 35 euros. Overall, the quality for the price of 145 euros is unacceptable compared to the equivalent model from 2021 that I had before. And I'll conclude with two issues that I noticed. The lacing cuts into your foot strongly if you make the mistake of tightening them well. And secondly (I believe it's the materials of the toe and mainly the design), they cause sweating in the toes. Conclusion: If I found them for under 90 euros, I would buy them again. Otherwise, they're not worth it.
P.S.: They really don't smell like SALOMON

I just got them so time will tell if they are durable. I have to say they are a bit narrow (and I don't have wide feet). Maybe they loosen up in time. I usually get 43 but purchased number 44 as I read a lot of reviews saying that you should get a bigger number and I can confirm that. Overall I think you should go and try on your feet if possible to see if they are comfortable for you and also for the proper size. That said I'm happy with the purchase.

In the photos, the X Ultra 4 Mid GTX is shown side by side with the X Ultra 3 Mid GTX. The previous model in the photo has undergone 560 km of abuse in the mountains.

I have the feeling that the plastic parts on the heel and toe were more reinforced in the old model, especially on the lower back, where the shoe encounters rocks as shown in the photo of the old model...
The sole is 95% the same.
The design is also the same with a slight difference in the tongue, which covers the Achilles tendon higher.
Also, the new model is more flexible in the front.

Update 06/2024. After about 100 km of "wood" with the new model, I hadn't decided if they suited me as much as the previous ones until I did a very difficult ascent-descent where I realized that the new model does exactly what we buy it for. It protects you fully when jumping from rock to rock for hours, and the soles of the feet look as if you haven't covered any km on rough terrain.

For those who prefer Salomon and are familiar with the company, I would say that the quality has declined but it is not at the bottom. The laces need to be replaced directly if they are not intended for simple everyday use. The sole started to wear out at 150km and became useless at 250km. However, this is the second GTX 4 Mid that I have because the options in this category are limited

Having worn the second edition for over 10 years and many other Salomon shoes (including the forces series), I will say the following:
On the positive side:
They are comfortable, stylish, and you feel like you can wear them for hours. The sole is decent, it doesn't slip much, but I can't comment on its durability yet.
On the negative side:
The quality is not as expected. It reminds me of a cheaper shoe. The laces indeed don't stay in place.
Conclusion:
I haven't used it extensively outdoors, so I would say it's a decent boot, inferior to previous editions, and not worth the money it costs at retail since there are better options at that price range. For the €90 I got it on sale, it's fine.

From the moment companies impose the trend of mobile phones, that is, constantly releasing the same model in a new version, at some point they would lose their character.
No relation to the older ones. Small stylistic differences every year brought poor quality materials to this model. The company could have stability in design and materials with minimal technological improvements.
Luckily, I have in good condition the boots I bought 5 years ago.

Incredibly comfortable shoes for 12 hours of daily work! Stable grip and great water resistance! I highly recommend them without hesitation!
