With natural imaging, it allows for the capture of stunning portraits and landscapes. The optical system consists of 5 elements in 3 groups, with an aspherical element in the center, which improves image quality. It is characterized by good correction of chromatic aberrations, high micro-contrast, and sharpness from edge to edge.

The ten-blade aperture allows control of the amount of light, adjustable from f/2.8 to f/22, providing freedom in the use of depth of field. The minimum focusing distance on Leica M mount bodies is 70 cm.

Voigtlander lenses are known for their high build quality. The Heliar 40 mm f/2.8 maintains this tradition with metal construction, ensuring long-term precision. The focusing ring moves smoothly with the appropriate resistance, and it features an ergonomic pusher that locks the helical movement.
