Barolo is a red wine Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) produced in the northern Italian region of Piemonte. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape and is often described as one of Italy's greatest wines.
The production area extends to the communities:
- Barolo
- Castiglione Falletto
- Serralunga d'Alba
- Parts of the municipalities Cherasco, Diano d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Novello, Roddi, Verduno
All the communities are located in the province of Cuneo, southwest of Alba.
The Barolo from Prunotto in the Piemonte region is aged for 24 months in large oak barrels of 1000 ltr and 500 ltr of Slovenian and French origin. It then remains for another 12 months in the bottle.
