Chateau Rieussec is a sweet white wine ranked as Premier Cru Classe in the original official Bordeaux wine classification of 1855. It is the second wine of Chateau Rieussec, selected according to the same standards as the first wine.
Its character reveals a beautiful aromatic range with dominant citrus flavors. The name Carmes de Rieussec refers to the Carmelite monks in Langon, who owned the Rieussec estate in the 18th century. The winery has been owned by Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1984.
The vineyards of Chateau Rieussec extend across the borders of Fargues and Sauternes and are adjacent to Chateau d'Yquem. Rieussec is one of the largest estates in Sauternes and Barsac, covering 93 hectares of sandy clay soil.
Its color is bright, light yellow, with an intense nose revealing notes of tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple. There are some well-integrated oak notes from barrel aging. It has a wonderful volume on the mid-palate, remaining balanced and steady until the finish, which reveals a mild sweetness with slightly roasted notes reminiscent of caramel.
This wine is a blend of Semillon (97%), Sauvignon Blanc (1%), and Muscadelle (2%).
