Description

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, one of the most historic wine-producing regions in France, is located in the Rhône Valley. It is the most important viticultural area on its southern side. Its name dates back to the 14th century when Pope Clement V decided to move the seat of the Roman Catholic Church from Rome to the city of Avignon. The monastic orders that settled in the area in the 10th century soon discovered the potential of the terroir for producing quality wines.

The wines from the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape became the official wines of papal meals, also known as "wines of the Pope," thus gaining prestige and recognition.
