Chateau Haut Sarpe has a long history in the region as it dates back to 1750. Today, it is owned by the renowned Janoueix family. The estate's 21 hectares are planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Many of the vines are old, with an average age of almost 45 years.
The terroir is a mix of clay, limestone, and sandy soils. As the vineyard is replanted, new plantings are done at much higher vine densities.
For wine production, fermentation takes place in large, traditional, temperature-controlled, cement vats. The wine is aged in 30% new French oak barrels for an average of 12 months before bottling.
