The active volcano of the island of Lemnos connects the island with Hephaestus, the god-protector of metallurgy. According to mythology, Hephaestus taught the people of Lemnos the art of metallurgy. Naturally sweet aged wine Protected Designation of Origin Lemnos. It is produced from overripe Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown on the island of Lemnos. The grapes are sun-dried under the warm Mediterranean sun to mature the organoleptic character of the Muscat. Aging in French oak barrels creates an intoxicating bouquet of aromas and imparts a "honey-like" sweetness to the wine.
