Calendula (Calendula arvensis - pot marigold) originates from Central and Southern Europe. It is an annual plant that rarely exceeds 15 cm in height. In modern herbal medicine, Calendula is used:
- "Internally" (infusion) for the treatment of ulcers and painful menstruation.
- "Externally" (compress) for the care of wounds, burns, and insect bites.
Calendula is considered an excellent herb for ulcers, gastritis, and gastrointestinal infections. It also acts as a digestive aid and is effective for period pains and cramps. Its effectiveness is likely due to its antispasmodic properties.
When used topically, its properties are impressive. It has remarkable healing virtues based on its antiseptic and antibacterial action. It is recommended for the treatment of acne, phlebitis, eczema, and skin tags.
You can make an infusion by boiling 5g in water for 10-15 minutes for each "cup" of beverage. It is recommended to consume up to 3 cups of Calendula daily, before meals. For a compress, place a quantity of the herb in a pot of water and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Strain and dip a clean cloth in the infusion, placing it warm on the skin.
Alternatively, you can make a poultice by wrapping the herb in gauze and securing it to the body. Herbs should be treated as medicines. Always consult your doctor before taking them.
