How to use Alocasia Soil Mix
The use of the mix is easy! Start by removing as much of the old soil as possible. Gently press the pot while holding it sideways to loosen the plant. Run the roots under lukewarm tap water to remove the last pieces and bits. Remove any dead foliage that may still be on the plant using scissors. Now the plant is ready for the fresh Alocasia soil. Add a small layer of Alocasia mix to the bottom of the pot. Place the plant in the pot and slowly add Alocasia soil to the sides to fill it. Make sure the point where the roots meet the plant is just buried under the Alocasia soil. Tap the Alocasia mix lightly in the pot. Make sure you water the Alocasia mix well after repotting, as this helps settle the mix and the roots.
The Alocasia mix contains vermiculite instead of the more common perlite. This makes the soil stay moist for longer. Vermiculite holds moisture very well and releases it back into the soil slowly. This makes it easier to keep your Alocasia evenly moist and reduces the time you have for watering, leaving you more time to admire your plant!
Most of Alocasia comes from Southeast Asia. They are found on forest floors in subtropical and tropical areas. They love high humidity, warmth, and constantly moist soil that does not dry out. This does not mean they do not need drainage, their roots still need to breathe well. This Alocasia mix mimics this habitat!
