American Civil War Battle Set: Freedom or Death! - Warlord Games
The opposition to taxes imposed by the British Parliament led to intensified patriotic protests, reaching a climax on December 16, 1773, with the destruction of a shipment of tea, known as 'the Boston Tea Party'.
The British government punished Massachusetts by closing the port of Boston and stripping it of self-governance. The Patriots countered by creating a shadow government that took control of the province outside Boston, appointing General George Washington to lead the militia units besieging the British forces in Boston.
In February 1775, the British government declared Massachusetts to be in a state of rebellion. On April 19, 1775, the first military actions of the American Revolutionary War (or Revolutionary War) took place as a battle broke out between Massachusetts militia units and British regulars at Lexington and Concord.
