It doesn't have a zipper; you fold the top part over and it's protected from sand, etc. It is indeed waterproof since it is entirely made of plastic material.
On the negative side:
- The shoulder straps are very close together. They are not adjustable. 9 out of 10 times I end up carrying it by hand since you can't really put it on your shoulder and/or it falls off very easily.
- It doesn't have any internal pocket – the whole space is unified.
- The fact that it doesn't have a zipper could be considered a negative – I got used to it and in the end, it worked for me.
