With the metal one, if you're not careful, as soon as you press the button, the crayon slips and can quickly fall to the floor. The Giotto plastic case is more accurate in this aspect, as with each press, the crayon comes down slowly. You may need to press 3-4 times to get it to the desired point, but there is no chance of it falling out of the case because it is well supported inside and does not slip.
