This additional module allows the connection of the Arduino Nano to the internet. It provides all the advantages of the Arduino Nano, including the breadboard-friendly design for quick prototyping. It is fully assembled with long pin headers so you do not need to purchase and solder the headers separately. It is ready to use out of the box.
The ETHERNET-4NANO supports up to four simultaneous socket connections. Use the Ethernet library to write sketches that connect to the internet via the additional module. It connects to an Arduino Nano using female header connectors with long wires that protrude from the board for breadboard connections.
The Micro-SD port can be used to store files served over a network and is compatible with the Ethernet library for Arduino 0019 and later. It also includes a reset controller, to ensure that the W5100 Ethernet module resets correctly upon startup.
The Arduino Nano communicates with both the W5100 and the MicroSD card using the SPI bus. The Nano's digital pins 11, 12, and 13 are used for this connection. Pin 10 is used for selecting the W5100 and pin 4 for the MicroSD card. These pins cannot be used for General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO).
Note that because the W5100 and the MicroSD card share the SPI bus, only one can be active at a time. The ETHERNET-4NANO provides a standard RJ45 Ethernet port. The reset button on the Nano resets both the W5100 and the Arduino Nano.
