This is the result of processing the resin from which the rods are made, which are then used to craft the Visconti Van Gogh writing tools.

In the Self Portrait models, blue dominates, surrounding the artist's face in the self-portrait and also appearing on the shirt. The image is complemented by fine waves of white and occasionally light brown, representing the skin and features of Vincent Van Gogh's face.
