Fresh purchase, first impressions:

Very good screen for someone who does office work or graphics. The 60hz doesn't allow for much more. Between us, it's kind of unacceptable that screens have better refresh rates only when targeting gamers. So if you're working on a screen that costs around a thousand and occasionally want to watch a movie with a better experience or play a good game, they tell you to go to the TV or get a second screen!

The build quality seems good. The base of the screen looks metallic/silver, it definitely has metal and the finish is like aluminum. The arm seems to be plastic painted "aluminum". The bezels are nice, small and discreet, without a logo (there is the DELL on the base).

The resolution and clarity of the screen are excellent. 4K on 32 inches is borderline acceptable for the human eye, the letters appear very small at the native resolution and you will probably need scaling at least at 125%.

For those familiar with the issues of IPS panels, yes it has backlight bleeding and glow and all the known issues. These are visible under certain conditions, in a dark room, when you see something dark or black on the screen. Dell considers them normal because they measure them in normal room lighting and not in darkness. It's not a terrible problem but if someone believes that these issues have been solved because the panel is IPS Black, no they haven't been solved. It's not a deal breaker, if someone doesn't want them, then they should look for QD-OLED.

The HDR is a joke. First of all, Dell itself says that in a Windows environment it should be OFF. If you turn it ON (in one of the menu modes) then when you're not viewing HDR content, everything is overly bright, washed out as the experts say. All of this happens because there is no function that automatically activates HDR when you're viewing HDR content (e.g. a series on Netflix) and then turns it OFF when you're on the desktop. Now, as HDR it doesn't perform well. It increases brightness satisfactorily but at the same time it's like terminating the contrast, which means you see entire blocks of pixels without any detail in the very dark and very bright areas. In other words, if you're comparing different screens and looking for a reference point for the final purchase, the HDR of this screen is not it. Probably no IPS panel is. HDR requires OLED-level dimming zones. However, Dell could have done a better job here. The HDR in the product title is for marketing purposes only.

Let's remove another star now because DELL doesn't tell us things well.
The screen has a crashing problem when you try to open a streaming service (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+) in a browser. This only happens the first time, when during the boot of the machine, the screen is either on or in standby (which is the usual, who completely turns off the screen?). After that, as long as the screen and PC are on, the problem doesn't occur again.

As soon as you try to play a movie on Disney+, for a few tenths of a second you see the loading icon, followed by a nice static noise image and then a black screen. Immediately after, the screen displays "No DP signal". The only solution to this is to either unplug and replug the cable or turn off and turn on the screen. The most "permanent" solution is to always keep the screen closed when booting and then open it after a few seconds (after the BIOS stage). Of course, in this case, most likely the motherboard will show you the VGA error LED lit because it did not find a screen during boot.

After researching on the DELL forum, I have concluded that something happens with the screen when it goes into standby and fails to make a successful HDCP handshake with the PC. This results in Netflix and other services considering the screen to be non-HDCP compliant and crashing. When the cable is unplugged and plugged back in, or when the screen is closed/opened, a new HDCP handshake takes place, this time successfully because both devices are simultaneously turned on. That's why subsequent attempts to play videos on Netflix are successful.

The star rating is removed because DELL has been aware of the problem for about a year, there are other reports on their forum, and the only instructions they provide are the usual ones (check cables, drivers, turn off HDR, etc.). Obviously, these instructions don't lead anywhere and I am waiting to see if and when DELL will do something about it.

DELL's official response is that I should seek help from Netflix, Amazon, Disney, etc. It does not recognize the problem as a screen issue. However, if it were a Netflix issue, there would be thousands of users complaining!

Furthermore, the problem does not only occur on popular platforms like Netflix, but also on any website that happens to have an embedded video player (surprisingly not YouTube). It is somewhat random but happens frequently.

The only solution is to not use a DisplayPort connection but HDMI. However, this means losing the 10-bit color since HDMI 2.0 can only provide 8-bit/60hz or 10-bit/30hz! Unacceptable for a thousand-dollar screen.

Let me also add something related to the user experience. Having 4K on these inches is a problem. There are applications that do not scale or scale poorly with a "broken" UI. So, you are forced to switch to 100% scaling, everything looks very small, and it strains your eyes. Conclusion? Either go for a lower resolution or a larger physical size so that the PPI is around 100-110 and you don't need scaling greater than 100%.
