The story begins after the events of Armageddon, when Raiden, just before dying, sends a message to his past self: “He must win”. This leads to an alternate retelling of the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games, with Raiden trying to change the future and prevent Shao Kahn's domination. The narrative unfolds through cinematic cutscenes and battles, with character switches and twists.
