Sandalwood, scientifically named Santalum album, is a small evergreen tree — reaching heights of 9m — belonging to the Santalaceae family, with hard leaves and small red flowers. Sandalwood or Heartwood is the complete wood where the tree deposits secondary metabolic products — in this case, its fragrant yellow viscous oil. The best wood comes from trees over 60 years old.

The essential oil of the plant is obtained through steam distillation of Sandalwood and has an aroma of aged wood. The main molecules of its chemotypic composition are Sesquiterpenols 70%: cadinol, balsamol, cadinol, and caryophyllene, substances with excellent therapeutic action.
