The latest Raspberry Pi computers come with WiFi and Bluetooth, and now you can add even more radio options with the Adafruit Radio Bonnets! Upgrade your Raspberry Pi with a LoRa/LoRaWAN radio station so it can communicate over very long distances. These bonnets connect directly to your Pi and provide you with remote wireless capabilities for remote units that may operate on battery. Or, you can easily create Internet gateways.

You get not only a radio model but also a 128x32 OLED display for status messages and three buttons that you can use to create a custom user interface or send test messages. All of the above is supported by our Python libraries, so you can send or receive LoRa data with other compatible models, send data to a LoRaWAN gateway, or even set up your own LoRaWAN-to-Internet gateways.

Compared to the 2.4 GHz WiFi/Bluetooth radios already on the Pi, these models operate at 433 or 900 MHz (sub-GHz). You can't send data as quickly, but you can send data much farther away. These radio waves are simpler than WiFi or BLE; there’s no need to pair, bond, scan, or worry about connections. All you need to do is send data whenever you want, and any other models set to the same frequency (and with the same encryption key) will receive the messages. The receiver can then send a reply back. The models do packetization, error correction, and can also auto-unpack, so you don’t have to worry about all that while less energy is wasted maintaining a connection or pairing.

  • These radio models come in four variations (two types of modulation and two frequencies).
  • The 433 MHz radio version - the exact radio frequency is determined when loading the software.
  • Uses the unlicensed ISM band: "European ISM" @ 868MHz or "American ISM" @ 915MHz.
  • Features SPI interface and can use a simple wire antenna or stubs for uFL or SMA connectors.
  • Each bonnet comes fully assembled and ready to use.

Dimensions: 65.2 x 30.6 x 9mm
