Description

This breakout board solves all current monitoring problems. Using the INA169 chip allows for measuring continuous current flow and provides an analog output relative to ground. This analog output makes it ideal for feedback loops control.

Most current measurement devices are only suitable for measurements from the low-voltage side. This means that unless a battery is involved, the measurement resistance must be placed between the target ground and the true ground. This process can cause issues in circuits, as electronics do not favor changes in ground references that vary with current flow.

This chip is much smarter because it can handle high-side current measurements up to +60VDC! An accurate amplifier measures voltage across a 0.1 ohm, 1% measurement resistor. The resistor is rated for 2W continuously, allowing for continuous measurement up to +5A. The output is current flowing through the onboard 10K resistor, so the output voltage is 1V per Amp. For a 2A flow, the output will be 2V.

The load resistor can be changed to a larger or smaller value by cutting the lines near it and soldering a manganese resistor. If you solder a 20K resistor, you'll get 2V per Amp, while with a 5K resistor, 0.5V per Amp.
