Tyrnavos, located at the foot of Mount Olympus, is one of the main wine-producing areas of Greece and since 1990 has been part of the PGI Tyrnavos wine region. The Zafeirakis Estate focuses on sustainable farming practices to create wines that respect both people and the environment. The vineyard management is carefully designed with minimal intervention aiming to preserve the biodiversity of the environment.
Farming has been organic since 2005 and is certified by Biohellas. Biodynamic practices have been applied since 2019.
The Zafeirakis Estate cultivates more than 120 acres of vineyards in the areas of Palaiomylos and Kampilaga with native Greek varieties such as Limniona and Malagouzia as well as international options like Chardonnay and Syrah.
- The production of white wines includes cooling the grapes to 4°C and fermenting in stainless steel tanks and barrels.
- Maturation continues in new and old barrels.
- For red wines, the classic winemaking method is applied with an extraction period of 17-24 days.
- Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels.
- Maturation continues in barrels and amphorae.
