  • Does it disconnect/freeze?
  • Value for money
  • The D-Link DUB-E250 dongle uses the native CDC-NCM driver of macOS, which is the most stable and efficient driver available for USB Ethernet on macOS.

    Why this is good:

-Low CPU overhead → it won’t slow down performance during large file transfers.

-Better flow control → less chance of it “sticking” or freezing when you edit files directly on your NAS.

-Fully maintained by Apple → no need for unstable third-party drivers (kexts).

This small comment, for those who wish to connect it to any NAS/local server system in the Apple ecosystem. Since Apple laptops no longer have ethernet, many times the connection would drop or freeze, etc. The only thing that saved the local NAS from complete replacement was this dongle for 32 euros. Go for it.

It works flawlessly at 2.5Gb on a MacBook Pro M3, unlike a Ugreen one with the same chip that was not recognized.

I have had it for about a month, it seems to be working properly. I have it in a 1000Mbps line and it connects without any issues. I don't know about the 2.5Gbit

I have it on a Nuc 10th gen, the operating system running is Proxmox (Debian based (that's why I didn't install any of the compatible tick operating systems)) and I have it set up as a pfsense vm to serve as my home router.
Currently, it is connected to a 1gbps switch and it runs at full 117.8MB/s.
Once I get a 2.5gbps switch, I will update the review to let you know how it performs at full speed.
So far, it's been doing great and I run multiple services on the nuc
